Hands-on Mission Opportunities
Bridges-Kinship Mentoring
Ongoing 4-6 hours a month
Do good! Mentor a child! Bring a friend to a child or youth, age 5-17, can be the most rewarding experience for both you and the child. Can you commit at least 4-6 hours a month for a year? Mentor as an individual, a couple, or a family. Make a difference in another's life. Mentor! Call Nancy Roth at 326-4700.
Habitat for Humanity - Grand Rapids
Anytime June - September: 2-3 hours
You can volunteer any amount of time to work at the house that will be built during the summer. We may try to gather a group which will spend a day cleaning the house just before it is turned over to the family in September.
Youth for Christ Ground Floor Chaperones
Evenings 3-4 hours
Volunteers can chaperone at The Ground Floor, help at other YFC events or work with the Board of Directors to provide oversight and financial support for this program. The Executive Director is Duane Geisler.
Second Harvest Food Bank At the Food Bank
Anytime 2 hours
You may help re-package goods, assemble the Christmas baskets, work with our youth when they volunteer at the Food Bank, or even work with the Board of Directors. The youth groups organize several visits annually.
CROP Walk
April - 4 hour
The annual CROP Walk is in April. The walk seeks to help remind people of the reality of hunger for many people in the world and to raise money to address the problems. Twenty- five percent of what is raised through pledges goes to the local Food Bank and the rest is used around the world. You can walk or sponsor a walker. Jaci David is CPC's coordinator.
Bloodmobile At CPC
TBA - 1 hour
On TBA, the Bloodmobile will visit Community Presbyterian Church. If you want to give blood, other opportunities will be available in the community. Let us know if you can help make phone calls, greet people who come to donate blood, or give blood yourself next year.
Special Cares In People's Homes
Anytime 1-2 hours a time
The Deacons invite volunteers to shop, drive or help those who are shut-in, have a new baby, are just home from the hospital, or experiencing long term illness. They also provide long-termfriendships for those who are homebound.
Community Cafe Itasca Resource Center
Second Tuesday of the Month 2-4 hours
You are invited to help out at the Community Cafe as cook, wait staff, or with clean-up. Work starts in the mid afternoon and everyone is done before 7:30 p.m. The Cafe serves those who are hungry or eat alone in Grand Rapids.
Mission Giving Opportunities
SERRV
We purchase crafts on consignment made by people in developing nations and then sell these products, return the proceeds to the people who made them. We also need another person to help run the store.
Grand Rapids Food Shelf
Fourth Sundays
We ask people to bring food or make contributions on the fourth Sunday of the month. These donations go to the local Food Shelf.
Transient Fund
Anytime
The Grand Rapids Ministerial Association provides lodging, gas, and money for a meal to people in need passing through town.
One Great Hour of Sharing
Lent
This offering received during Lent supports three programs, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Hunger Program, and Self Development of People Program.
Peacemaking Offering
First Sunday in October
Received on World Communion Sunday, gifts are used to help in international and national peacemaking programs and 25% remains in Grand Rapids for our own efforts.
Christmas Joy Offering
December
The Christmas Joy Offering is taken in December and is split between support for minority education and retired church workers.
Heifer Project
January
The Heifer Project is a program of the Sunday School Classes. Proceeds from the children's gifts are used to buy animals which are given to people in Developing Nations.
Presbyterian Women
The Rummage Sale takes place in May and October. The Thank Offering is received at Thanksgiving and the Birthday and Least Coin Offerings are taken at the time of your birthday.
Gingerbread Tree
December
In December you are invited to pick up an gingerbread child from our tree, buy a present for the child listed, and return unwrapped to be included with the Holiday Food Baskets.
